How does it work?
Onyfix uses a hardened composite material which is cured by a LED light and acts like a brace on the nail plate. This ensures the nail remains in the correct shape as it grows from the base of the nail until the end, thus reshaping the pathway for the new nail growth.
How long does an Onyfix band last?
Onyfix bands will usually last at least 3 months or longer. In the majority of cases it stays in place until it grows right out with the nail. You may have to have more than one band applied as your nail is corrected over time, depending on the severity of the deformity. If the band comes off within 2 weeks of us applying it then we will re-apply it free of charge. If it comes off after 2 weeks then we will charge for another application. If you are very active for example a regular swimmer or runner then it may need reapplying more regularly.
Can I have Onyfix if I have an infected ingrowing toe nail?
We would need to assess your nails before deciding if you are able to go ahead with the onyfix or not. However generally if you have an infection this would need to be resolved prior to us completing any treatment. This may be through antibiotics from your GP. Please contact us if you’re not sure- we’re always happy to discuss with you.
How long does the Onyfix take to apply?
The Onyfix band is usually applied in around 15 minutes. However we also need to complete an assessment and routine footcare appointment with you. Within this we will also be preparing your nail/s for the application of the Onyfix band. We recommend allowing an hour for the whole treatment.
